With over two decades as a dedicated yoga practitioner and Senior Yoga Teacher, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to every session. My journey with yoga began long before I started teaching in 2005, and I continue to pursue ongoing training in this healing art as part of my lifelong commitment.
My foundational training in classical Indian yoga (Sivananda style) in California provides the perfect balance of fitness, meditation, and relaxation. This robust background, combined with specialised bodywork training, offers a truly holistic perspective on movement and healing.
My experience spans a broad spectrum of needs, ensuring I can provide sensitive, informed, and highly effective support for a wide range of needs, including injury or illness rehabilitation:
- Yoga for Seniors: I have specialist training in yoga for the over 70s, and deeply understand how to adapt practices for age-related changes, from flexibility and digestion to hormonal balance and breathwork. My aim is always to honour your body’s unique process at every stage of life. For those over 70, often considered the most philosophical stage of life, we can also explore the profound philosophy of yogic traditions and the psychology of the mind. I am experienced in teaching mixed abilities.
- Rehabilitation & Complex Care: I have extensive experience working in hospital settings, including supporting cancer patients (with specific experience supporting women with breast cancer) and those in hospice care. This background makes me adept at guiding individuals through physical rehabilitation, chronic conditions, and mental health challenges with the utmost care.
- Performance & Recovery: Furthermore, I’ve worked with professional athletes, understanding the demands of high-performance bodies and how yoga can aid in recovery, injury prevention, and building resilience.
Understanding Hatha Yoga: The Path to Balance
Hatha Yoga is the foundational practice encompassing all physical yoga disciplines. The term “Hatha” signifies the union of opposites: “Ha” (sun – active, masculine energy) and “Tha” (moon – receptive, feminine energy).
